the ultimate excuse
as you all know by now, my sofa exerts considerable gravitational force on my butt in the best of times. and lately, i’ve been pulling some serious g’s. it’s like something is sucking the life out of me. oh. something IS sucking the life out of me. i like to call it “danny’s little brother.” you’ve by now used your context clues to determine that i’m pregnant. i’ve just cleared the first trimester, and have left the nausea behind. the fatigue remains. thus the extra g’s and the general failure to maintain the web presence to which you have become accustomed. i know you missed me desperately. cousin heather. oh, wait, you just wanted pictures of danny. i’ll see what i can do.
you may also have used context clues to lead you to believe that we know the gender of the baby. false. it’s a little trick i learned years ago, and it’s called sandbagging. as much as i love having my face used as a target for sippy cups, books, trucks, and the like, i’m hoping that the next one will perhaps be of the gentler, more sedentary, less throw-things-in-your-face sex. thus, by referring to the littlest rutledge as “danny’s little brother,” i am tempting God/fate/sperm/genderselectionfairies to prove me wrong, as well as preparing for the possibility that my face is just beginning its long career as the best target in the house. ****this note is just for you, danny’s little brother, in the event that one day you’ve decided to drudge up the old blog and see what you can dangle over your poor mom’s head and make her feel guilty about: i have wanted and loved you from the second you began to exist, regardless of your naughty parts and/or penchant for throwing things at my face. plus, my favorite name i have brewed up is a boy name. so if you turned out to be a boy, i’m glad you’re you, and also that i got to name you the best name. assuming your father didn’t nix it. ****end note

man, i hate to tell you this, but girls are just as abusive. note my semi-swollen lip and the tiny bruises on my arm. lip courtesy of avery, arm thanks to zoe kicking me WHILE SHE EATS. seriously. but at least they wear dresses, i guess!
oh and thank goodness for new danny pictures. i was seriously beginning to think he had run away with the circus. and CONGRATS again. totally stoked for y’all!

first of all, congrats! and, now that i feel completely horrible for making you get up from the couch and post this wonderful news and not just one, but many pictures, i just want you to know that i will forever be grateful. side note - please do not think that because you posted many pics of sweet danny that you do not have to post again for a month. the excuses have got to stop!

Where was the whole, “Leigh Anne figured it out WEEKS ago, so she wins!” shout-out? The small amount of intelligence I’ve gained via reading Mary Higgins Clark has given me just a few CSI-esque sleuthing skills.
And, like I said WEEKS ago (ok, like 2 or 3 weeks ago, people), it’s a girl. A GURL. A girly gurl, ’cause Leigh Anne will be gifting her with all kinds of monogrammed goodies. You know how I feel about some personalization. And if he happens to be Danny’s little brother, well he will benefit from some embroidery, too.
Glad you’re back…I only checked every day to see if you’d finally gotten off the couch. Go eat some Papasitos…it’s good for growing babies.

The pictures are beautiful!!! And I’m like everyone else; I check everyday to see what’s new. It’s amazing how a sofa can just absord you and it really doesn’t matter when you’re in the zone. Can’t wait to find out the gender!!! Not that we can do anything about it.

Even though Danny’s baby bro crashed our beach party months ago, I absolutely love and adore him (or her) to pieces and am glad that Ben is going to have another sort of sibling, too….since most of the time he talks about baby Danny as if he is his big brother. I am so happy for you guys! For now, Joey will have to fill in as my drinking buddy, hope that’s OK, Joey.
