there’s no way to know how much fun this is until you do it. my kid’s first birthday party. my kid’s first BIRTHDAY party. MY KID’s first birthday party. my kid’s FIRST birthday party. MY KID’S FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY. my sister amy has been a birthday party freak for years, and i always thought she was a little off her rocker about it. but now, now i get it. we had way more fun than should even be allowed. danny, evidently, very much enjoys 34 people in the house, chili dogs, a matching, curly-headed birthday assistant, BALLOONS, new toys, and a rapt audience for whom he could clap and wave. though napless, he was friendly to everyone, and did everything just right at a birthday party. including, unfortunately, refusing to wear his birthday hat. maybe i can bribe him in a couple months.

so seriously. if you’ve thought about having kids but then thought about how they’re too much trouble and eh, not really. they are a RIDICULOUS amount of trouble, that’s true. but no kid, no YOUR KID’S FIRST BIRTHDAY PARTY. and it’s worth it.
